Investigating structural racism in migrant work contexts |

Two major projects related to climate and environment : Devon Payne-Sturges, Maryland Institute for Applied Environmental Health, is leading a team to investigate structural racism and health among Black and LatinX migrant and seasonal farmworkers through an R01 from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). The project will involve examination of environmental health factors; system engagement (farm owners, operators, agencies); and policy and legal analysis. Michel Boudreaux, Health Policy and Management, is leading another NIEHS R01 project that measures patterns of prenatal and first-year-of-life exposure to smoke plumes and particulant matter. The study will examine the impact of wildfire exposure on health at birth, health service use, neonatal and infant mortality, as well as moderating influence of socio-demographics and baseline air pollutant exposures.
