Bio
Dr. Bader's current projects examine the long-term integration of multiethnic neighborhoods:
1. A study comparing tract-level population projections from 2000 to 2010 to actual population composition in 2010 to estimate how much migration into and out of neighborhoods contributes to neighborhood racial change;
2. analyses of the 2016 and 2018 DC Area Survey that measure neighborhood satisfaction and preferences among a sample of residents in Washington, D.C., and its surrounding jurisdictions living in multiethnically integrated neighborhoods and all neighborhoods, respectively; and
3. work on a book-length manuscript on the growth and stability of multiethnic neighborhoods in the United States, focusing on the Washington, D.C. area in particular.
These interrelated projects will help explain the mechanisms that sustain (or undermine) long-term integration and to identify potential policies that could help maintain integration. The research involved in these projects builds on other research that has identified patterns of long-term change and studied neighborhood preferences.
